From Matcha to Chili Powder: Merrynewon Opens Tinplate and Aluminum Can Lines
Merrynewon, a packaging manufacturer based in Guangzhou, opened two can lines: a round tinplate tin can built for tea, coffee and candy, and an Aluminum jar for seasonings and spices supplied with a customizable sieving insert and an aluminum film seal.
Dry goods fail slowly — and the closure decides how fast
Powders, beans and sweets lose quality through two routes only: moisture getting in, and aroma getting out. Both are decided by the closure, not by the label. The two new lines were specified around that single fact — the same can body is offered with different sealing systems so a brand can match the opening experience to how the product is actually used.
Tinplate tin cans for tea, coffee and candy
The round tinplate can is the workhorse of the line, supplied in a 50g primary format with 30–300g sizes also available. It is food-grade and rated for direct food contact, with a food-grade coated interior.
The can mouth offers two sealing methods, plus the option of shipping unsealed:
- Peel-off film — a sealing film is applied over the can mouth at filling and peeled away by the consumer on first use. This is the method most customers choose.
- Easy-open lid — the lid is opened once by pulling the tab, leaving a visible trace on the can. Suited to gift and retail formats where first-opening evidence matters.
- Unsealed — cans can also be supplied with no can-mouth seal.

The screw lid is offered in two versions:
- Standard screw lid — the everyday resealable closure.
- Gasket-lined screw lid — a glue-dispensed gasket ring inside the lid adds a further sealing layer, tightening the closure beyond a standard lid.

Applications covered by the format: matcha and green tea powder, loose-leaf tea, hojicha, coffee beans and ground coffee, sugar cubes, and hard or gummy candy. Cans ship in stock colors, with custom colors, logo printing and labels available.
Aluminum spice jars with a sieving insert
The second line is an aluminum jar for seasonings and spices, 90-110g, food-grade and rated for direct food contact. Its defining part is the insert: the inner lid is punched with a hole pattern, and the pattern is customizable per order.

Patterns shown in the reference image include a fine multi-hole layout for slow dusting, a large-hole layout for fast pouring, a half-moon opening paired with small holes, and a two-hole layout. The point of the insert is dosage control: a cook shakes a measured amount of chili powder or sea salt instead of tipping the jar.
Sealing runs in three layers: an aluminum film sticker seals the can mouth at filling, the sieving insert sits inside, and a screw lid closes the jar. The film provides the factory seal and the first-opening evidence; the insert and lid make the jar reusable once the film is removed.

Applications: sea salt, chili powder, black pepper, paprika, curry powder, herbs and seasoning blends. The jar is supplied airtight and moisture-proof, in stock colors or custom colors, with logo printing or labels.

One production base, two materials
Both lines run through the same in-house design, mold and printing capability. Around 100 stock specifications are held in a 3,000 m² warehouse under ERP-managed inventory; more than 1,000 molds are held in house alongside a 10,000 m² production and R&D base, with flexible lines capable of over 200,000 units per day. Merrynewon has supplied more than 5,000 domestic and international companies. An in-house team of packaging designers, 3D modelers, process engineers and mold engineers turns submitted specifications into standardized drawings.
Compliance from the first order
Can interiors are coated with food-grade epoxy resin, a coating tested by NTEK, SGS and FDA for direct food contact. Documentation covering RoHS, CE, MSDS and EU food-contact requirements is provided on request.
